Iron Toxicity CalculatorCanine

Calculate iron toxicity risk in dogs based on ELEMENTAL iron dose. Estimates total elemental iron in mg/kg from the specific iron salt formulation and number of tablets ingested. KEY: toxicity is based on elemental iron content, not total salt weight — ferrous sulfate (20% elemental Fe), ferrous gluconate (12%), and ferrous fumarate (33%) differ significantly. Below 20 mg/kg elemental iron is generally safe, 20–60 mg/kg causes GI signs (vomiting, diarrhea, hematemesis), 60–100 mg/kg causes systemic toxicity (metabolic acidosis, hepatotoxicity), and above 100 mg/kg is potentially lethal. Also covers prenatal vitamins and pediatric multivitamins. Used for iron supplement ingestion, prenatal vitamin poisoning, and ferrous salt toxicology triage. Common queries: 'dog ate iron pills', 'dog ate prenatal vitamins'.
