FAMACHA Score
FAMACHA ScoreOvineCaprine
FAMACHA conjunctival anemia scoring for sheep and goats. Evaluates ocular mucous membrane color on a 5-point scale to detect clinical anemia caused by Haemonchus contortus (barber pole worm) infection. Score 1 (red, non-anemic) to 5 (white, severely anemic). Developed for on-farm targeted selective treatment (TST) to reduce anthelmintic resistance. Used for deworming decisions, parasite management programs, small ruminant flock health, anemia assessment in goats and sheep, Haemonchus monitoring, and integrated parasite management (IPM). Optional packed cell volume (PCV / hematocrit) entry for correlation. Common queries: when to deworm goats, sheep anemia scoring, FAMACHA chart, conjunctival color score, barber pole worm treatment.
