Acute Patient Physiologic and Laboratory Evaluation (APPLE) fast score for canine ICU patients. Five-variable severity-of-illness model using glucose, lactate, albumin, platelet count, and mentation status. Total score ranges 0–50; scores >25 predict mortality with 85% specificity and 67% sensitivity. Developed by Hayes et al. (2010) from 810 ICU admissions. Used for ICU triage, prognosis estimation, mortality risk stratification, critical care monitoring, and guiding intensity of treatment.
